Driving In and Around Cambridge

By: kieran cassidy

Whilst learning to drive or driving around Cambridge the following may help you.Cambridge is primarily a university city and is located in the county of Cambridgeshire.

The dramatic Kings College Chapel dominates the city centre, a fine example of gothic architecture. The city centre is overrun by students cycling to and from lecture during term time so as always keep an eye out for cyclists.

A very scenic city, with many large open spaces and the beautiful River Cam running through the city centre, what better way than to drive around in the freedom of your own vehicle.

Any sightseeing trip to Cambridge will be dominated by visits to the separate colleges, all impressive in their own right. Kings College, Queens College, St Johns College, Jesus College, Pembroke College, Clare College, Saint Catharines College and Corpus Christi College all display dramatic architecture.

Cambridge is also notable for its parks, with The Back being the primary recreation centre in the summer, running along the banks of the Cam, behind the various colleges.

The Cambridge Botanic Garden is a somewhat more structured green space, organised into botanical collections. Cambridge nightlife is student orientated, with many excellent and inexpensive pubs and restaurants and several well established nightclubs, at this point is worth mentioning that drinking whilst driving is a strict no no, otherwise you could need a guide to police stations.

The most prominent nightclub is Fez, situated in Market Passage, with a regular student night on Mondays.
Travel to Cambridge is possible by plane, although the closest airport is London Stansted around 30 miles away.

If you are planning to drive into Cambridge its connected to the A14, A1 and A10 along with the M11 motorway.

Their are a list of driving test centres in Cambridge. If you are planning to book a theory test you need to contact The Cambridge Theory Test Centre which is situated on the second floor of St Andrews House, St Andrews street.

After passing your theory you will need to book a practical test. The first is 73 Chesterton Road Cambridge CB4 3AP. This centre caters for car and taxi tests. Expect a 9 week wait for car and 5 weeks for a taxi test as this centre is very busy. The average pass rate is 55 percent.
