How To Find Drink Driving/Driver Insurance

By: Eric Token

If you or, someone you know, has had a drink driving conviction and has served the sentence, you know how hard it is to get back on your feet. The hardest part can be finding drink driving/driver insurance on a motor vehicle. The good news is that there are some insurance companies that are still willing to serve you. The bad news is that you are going to pay very expensive premiums until you can prove that you have become a responsible, sober driver.

Finding a carrier of drink driving/driver insurance is the hardest thing to do. They are few and far between, so locating one is going to take some time and effort. Not to mention, a lot of money when you do.

If you have any friends, or business acquaintances that have been through this, or they know someone who has, ask them whom they found for insurance. That's usually the best place to start; you will have information from them that you may not get from the drink driving/driver insurance company. They can tell you more about how they handled any accidents that may have happened with insured with them, and that can be a big selling point. If the drink driving/driver insurance company treated them as any other company, rather than assuming they were drinking again, it can be refreshing and a real boost to keeping sober when behind the wheel.

Always, check online and see what drink driving/driver insurance companies that can take you and your driving habits. Even though you find one that accepts DUI or DWI convictions, you may have other things on your record that makes you too much of a high-risk driver for some of them to take on.

When you start looking for a drink driving/driver insurance company that will take you as a client, it may be best to start doing so before you lose your current insurance. Your premiums will go up even further if you haven't had insurance for any length of time, no matter what the reason is. Keep your premiums lower by switching to a company that will take extremely high-risk drivers before you are cancelled by your current insurance company. This may mean that you will need to switch as soon as the verdict comes in. Even if you lose your license, keep your vehicle insured. The money you save by doing so will help offset the increase you are going to be experiencing when you do have your license back.

Of course, the best way not to have to pay increased premiums for drink driving/driver insurance is simple not to drive if you have had even one drink. It's not hard to find another way to get home, or to run an errand. Ask a friend or family member for a ride. They'd rather you were safe and didn't hurt someone else should you have an accident. It is always better to be safe, than sorry.
