How to Build a Static 3-phase Converter

By: Alex De Mostafa

A lot of individuals are not familiar with a static three-phase converter but it is a device that helps office buildings and residential homes to conserve electricity. With the help of this device, you can divide the power into three phases, which will help you control your electricity consumption.

Converters make a third phase of electricity with the capacitators’ charge and discharge. It also creates a lot of power that can jumpstart a motor. This device is also use to start third phase machines. It stops once the motor begins functioning.

MATERIALS NEEDED IN CONSTRUCTING A STATIC 3-PHASE CONVERTER

The materials needed for this project are run capacitors, different lengths of wire, idler motor, star capacitors, plastic tapes, plugs, riley and rubber gloves.

TOOLS

The tools needed are voltmeter, measuring tape, nails, plugs and switches.

STEPS IN CREATING A STATIC 3-PHASE CONVERTER

Look for a good wiring code and remember to carefully fulfill all standard codes to ensure that your project will work efficiently. Ground the frame of the converter to make sure that it will remain safe. Pick the idler motor for your three-phase. The motor’s name player should be verified before connecting it to the wire. You should ball-bearing motors if they are available since they are considered the best.

At this point, add the run capacitors and the start capacitors. You should choose a capacitor according to the characteristics of the motor that you have picked. It is important that you get this right. Create a schematic illustration before begin working with the fuses because it will aid you if you will place it before you for guide.

You also need to wire the run capacitors and overloads. You should also base the size of the wire to the current. The total drop of the voltage in bigger wires should not surpass three percent. You should do some tests regarding the conduct current of the whole set-up.

After placing the wires, double check whether your project actually works. Place a plug to separate the conductors. You should always keep in mind the standard norms of wiring with this project.

ADDITIONAL TIPS

Do not begin working on any electrical set-up until you have checked the wiring regulations in your community. You should also use plastic gloves while working with this project for additional protection. You can also write down your plans first so that you will have a guide while working with the project.
