To Cherish Yourself

By: ella sofia

“Jessica, it’s time to go to school!” “Wait a minute! I’m searching a newly-designed pair of sunglasses online.” Yes, she is such a girl. Jessica, 14 years old, is a middle school student. She spends most of her spare time in surfing on the Internet. She considers Internet as the most useful way to get all the information. Jessica never misses any latest news about fashion. Her classmates call her “Fashion Queen”.

When Jessica comes across anyone on the street, they’ll all be attracted by her stylish dressing, sweet smile and confident steps. Such girls like her may be good at playing “Love games”, but Jessica is serious about her relationship with Mark, a guitarist in a band. Three months ago, her parents knew this by accident. Then she told them how much she loved Mark. However, it was like a red rag to a bull, her parents were furious with her. They couldn’t accept that their little daughter was with some guitar guy. Jessica had a big fight with her parents and left home. She moved to Mark’s house.

They were very sweet at first, but after a month, Mark was fed up with her and began to bring other girls back home. Jessica understood. He was just having fun. Overwhelmed with sorrow and desperation, she had nowhere to go but home. She locked herself in the room every day, playing the computer. She stared at the screen for more than 15 hours a day. Her eyesight became poor. Her parents couldn’t see Jessica degrade herself like that. They were worried about her health, about her eyes, about her future.

One night, her mom came into her room. “Jessica, what are you doing? You are ruining yourself. Do you know how painful I feel for you? Please, stop!” Her mom tried to hug her. Jessica pushed her away, “I’m sorry. I just feel disappointed about real life. I love Mark. Why did he do this to me? I can’t believe anything but Internet. In the virtual world, I find my pride.” “No, how sad you are! You love Mark, but you don’t love yourself at all. You are a slave to the computer, which does harm to you eyes and health. If you don’t cherish yourself, you will cherish you?” They had the heart-to-heart talk for the whole night. Finally, Jessica learnt her stupidity and made up her mind to go back to her normal and confident life.

Now, Jessica learns hard at school and plays computer for an hour a day. When her eyes feel tired, she uses eye drops to protect her eyes. She loves and cherishes herself. “Fashion Queen” comes back!
