UPVC Windows To Keep Intruders At Bay

By: Lawrence White

Have you bought a new home recently? Or are you thinking about some renovations to make your house look more attractive and secure? A home is where the heart is. All of us work hard for a single and the most important dream of all: to own a house that can secure you and your family. A place where you feel safe and can keep all your worries aside. We all deserve a home sweet home

There are many things that are important to make sure our house looks good and is secure. Believe it or not, every house speaks about the people living in that house. It represents our values, beliefs and our thinking patterns. In short, it represents us. Hence, every little detail needs to be paid attention to when we are renovating or building a home, like colours, alignment of furniture, floor tiles, kitchenware, bathrooms and so on. However, one tiny aspect we normally don't pay much attention to is windows. Windows are an integral part of the house and that's why they have been given preference in Vastu Shastra and Feng Shui, because they let the air flow into the house, a sort of a must-have ventilation system.

Windows are of different types. Over the years, the styles and patterns of windows have changed considerably. Primitive windows were just holes covered with animal hide or wood. Romans were the first to use glass windows in their architecture, which we still use till date. In countries like China, Korea and Japan, architects use paper windows, which were economical and widely preferred. Today, we come across hundreds of different types of windows. Modern-style floor-to-ceiling windows are also preferred these days, as they give a unique look to the house, and provide an excellent view for those staying in skyscrapers.

One of the latest in-home trends are uPVC windows, as they term them in Ireland and the UK. In the United States of America, they are better known as vinyl siding. These windows come in a range of colours and with a variety of decorative sculpted finishes, which makes these windows more popular. However, with the increasing crime and burglaries that we hear of, we need to make sure that our windows not only look great, but offer great level of security too. Studies show that in the United States of America, around 30 percent of burglars sneak in through windows.

uPVC windows offer us a level of security as they are rigid and durable - and also provide excellent acoustic and thermal insulation. They are available in the market in different styles like casement, vertical slider (to give an effect of a Georgian era), reversible (for easy cleaning), and tilt and turn styles. Since they are accompanied by the best locking mechanisms, they truly offer a high level of security to your home, aiding against intruders and making you feel safe and secure inside - or even when you may have to leave your house unattended while on vacation or business.
