What Makes a Vintage Gibson Guitar Vintage?

By: Jo Meadows

Vintage Gibson guitars are generally accepted as those from the 1920’s through to the 70’s. Unfortunately

many people believe that the term vintage is anything over 30 years old. This is where canny dealers will

catch them out, so beware. Whether it be an acoustic or vintage electric guitar there are certain models

that are worth far more than others so it as well to do your homework before buying a Vintage Gibson.

Although they cannot be truly categorized as vintage guitars, some 1980’s models are now fetching high

prices due to modern production methods and materials used in their construction. Some experts disagree and

use the shorter period from 1930’s to the early 70’s, disregarding the earlier models as they were in some

ways inferior.
